Cold is Coming on!

Believe it or not we had rain mixed with snow the other night! That's right its getting cold! Some things to remember for winter; don't store liquids that could freeze and make a mess inside your storage unit. Don't store food, or animal feed, it attracts critters. Use a good disc lock.
This time of year we have wild temp swings, keep good ventilation, use pallets to keep boxes off the cement floors, or a layer of plastic storage boxes on the bottom, will do the same.
This morning we woke to thick fog! Yep we are in Arizona.....hard to believe sometimes! :)

Update Your Address and Phone

To keep us updated, simply write your name, and new info on a sheet of paper. Remember to sign and date it. Either mail it or drop it off at our office. It's that easy!

Our Hearts go out to our SV neighbors!

Our thoughts and best wishes are going out to all the people effected by the local fires here in Arizona. We would like to offer our thanks to the fire fighters and others helping with this tragedy.

Well the Smoke is finally lightening up!

We where hit hard with the smoke this last week from all the fires in southern Arizona! The whole valley was fogged (smoked) in. Thank goodness they are getting the fires under control. Our hearts and well wishes go out to all effected by the fires this summer.
It should act as a reminder to keep your stored items insured. Check with your home owners or renter policies to see if your covered. If not, we suggest Safestor online providers of insurance for self storage. Remember its your responsibility to insure your stored items.

Summer Heat!

Well I think we are enjoying our last few weeks of nice weather. The summer heat is soon to come! Remember what that mean's for your storage units and whats in them. We recommend that you not store art work, furs, mounts, candles, electronics, ect... Use common sense when it comes to your stored items. If heat can effect them don't store them in a unit! Of course never ever store food in a unit!

We have just brought in a new security product. It helps eliminate the possibility of cutting through the door handle. We now have them in stock, you can buy them for $5 or use one for a $3 cash deposit which is refundable when you turn it in! Please let us know! These work with a disc lock and our handles (might require a replacement handle if yours is bent, only takes about 10 minutes for me to replace, at no cost to you) ! Happy April Fools Day

Boy the winter has been great out here, temps as high as the mid 80's! But in the 70's for the most part! Just gorgeous! Lilly's flowers are blooming like crazy, she has brought fresh flowers in the house every other day for the last 3 weeks!
Remember summer is just around the corner, time for that spring cleaning! We have the space you need, whether its just a few extra items or a full house of furniture, we have the room!

Venting Today!

Well this will be the last time ever shopping at Lowes! I spend between 4 -15K a year with them! Never again. We went and bought a few things for Lilly's garden. Spent $309 on bags of manure, soil, mulch (21 bags total), 2.5 gals. of Round Up, and few other small items! With 4 people behind us in line we where searched like common criminals! Every bag of manure was lifted up to see if we had hidden items! Ya right I want to steal some little item! Not a way a customer should be treated! Call corporate customer service when I returned home! 1-800-445-6937 then dial 0 when recording comes on! The girl took my info and told me to expect a call from a senior manager! I said after being treated like a thief and embarrassing Lilly and myself in front of 4 other customers, I would never spend another dime of my money with them! Lilly even ask the cashier if everyone gets searched, she said no if I'm busy! WTH! Do I look like a thief????
Now we walked in to the garden area of Lowes, got a flat cart. Went right to the manure and other bagged stuff. Loaded the cart, ask the cashier if I could leave the cart right across from her station while I went inside and picked up some other items we needed! The cart sat right in front of her the whole time! Came out of inside with our other items, walked over to the cart and pushed it the 7 feet to her register! Why where we singled out to be searched? Very, very embarrassing!
After calling corporate, I called the general manager of the Sierra Vista store! Got an asst. manager, told me we search every item on the cart! I told him he was either a liar or his cashier was. Because we asked her if she search everyone! Told me to call back tomorrow the GM was off for the day.I suggested he take my name and number and have his GM call me!
I have never had my stuff ever searched at Lowes before, and it will never happen again. Last they have seen of me! Home Depot here we come!

Nice Month

Weather has been great this month! We saw a day of snow, about3 inches, now we are back in the high 70's! Hard to beat! We have had to spray weeds twice this winter! I never remember that! Lots of moving and shaking going on around Benson. Would just like to give a friendly hello to all the new people moving to Benson and the surrounding area's. Studio is Open

We now have a small display of our turned wood products on display in the office. Our favorite wood is Mesquite, great grain patterns, very strong and stable. B&L Storage is opening a new studio soon ( with in the next few months). We will be working in mostly; mesquite , palo verde, pine, pepper tree, and iron wood. This is a picture of a 9" mesquite crotch or winged bowl, about 3" tall.

Type's of Storage

Storage comes in many flavors;
1.Temporary where your moving and need to store your items for a set period of time.
2.Permanent where you just need extra space.
3.Vehicle storage, you need a place for the RV or project car, boat etc...
4.Commercial storage where you might want the security of off site storage or you just need the extra space.

1.Temporary storage, go for the best bang for the buck, get the smallest unit you can fit your items into. You know its only in there for 8-9 weeks so you won't have to be searching through it to get at needed items. Temporary storage plan on moving it in and than moving it out.
2.Permanent storage, think how many items do I need to access? Go with a larger unit, makes your searches much easier. When packing unit separate areas Christmas stuff, seasonal items, yard care items, what ever your storing keep similar items together, makes searching much easier.
3.Vehicle is easy decide if you want inside or outside storage, think of car covers and pest control.
4.Commercial storage the best suggestion I can make is go with the largest unit you can afford. You will expand, your inventory will always change. One month you need a 10X10 the next a 15X20. You really don't want to move sheds all the time, so go for a large one. Many commercial users start with one shed and within months have 3 large units.

Remember these are generalized statements each and everyone situation is different, these are general suggestions. If you know you don't need to access your items go for a smaller unit. If you need to get at your stuff go for the larger unit, it really saves a lot of head aches. Benson is Growing

Our small town is growing up. We have been in Benson since 1987, what a change. We have a lot of Fast Food, Safeway, Walmart, Ace, and a lot more on the way. Benson Hospital is even growing, they expanded the emergency room. Every week a property rezoning is posted, or a new large business is announced in the local paper.
Benson is still a great place to live and work. Winter visitors still swell the population every winter. More seem to stay year round every year. We have such fabulous weather.
Benson Schools are very active, the kids enjoy many activities. Lots of sports, clubs, 4-H,to keep the kids busy.

Anna Bell (Puppy) Update

This weekend Anna Bell made her trip to California. She will be living at a feed lot and have lots of cows to work. It was tough to see her go, but she'll have the life she was born and breed for. She was a very cowwie dog, she would herd anything, cats, geese, ducks and cows. She saw sheep this weekend but was sure what to do with them..Good Luck Anna Bell we will miss you.

Please leave your pets at home. We love dogs and cats, we have 1 dog and 4 cats. We ask you to leave yours at home because this is a business. Not everyone likes dogs, some people are afraid. The other main reason is this can be a dangerous place for animals. Many times there are multiple cars and customers on the property. We would hate to have one of your beloved pets get hurt. Please note we have a 15 mile per hour speed limit, please follow this, we do not want anyone or anything to get hurt. Thanks for your help and understanding. We respect you, please respect our wishes. Of course service animals are always welcome, remember they are trained to be around people and cars.

Security! Watchful Eye's

We don't have snow, right now its over 100 outside. The Blue skies look great on the security cameras. Yes we do have "Watchful Eye's", we also do daily lock checks, we live on site. Yet we provide 24/7 access to your storage shed. We feel it's important not to tell you when and if you can access your items. Many storage units don't think this is important, they have limited hours,and limited access. Make sure you check with your storage company to see what access hours they offer. Someday you might need that special item at 5:15 pm ( We'll be open for you!)

Puppy Update

Forgot to put in an update - Anna Bell is the leader of the pack. She's growing the quickest and is very dominate.

Storage comes in many flavors;
1.Temporary where your moving and need to store your items for a set period of time.
2.Permanent where you just need extra space.
3.Vehicle storage, you need a place for the RV or project car, boat etc...
4.Commercial storage where you might want the security of off site storage or you just need the extra space.

1.Temporary storage, go for the best bang for the buck, get the smallest unit you can fit your items into. You know its only in there for 8-9 weeks so you won't have to be searching through it to get at needed items. Temporary storage plan on moving it in and than moving it out.
2.Permanent storage, think how many items do I need to access? Go with a larger unit, makes your searches much easier. When packing unit separate areas Christmas stuff, seasonal items, yard care items, what ever your storing keep similar items together, makes searching much easier.
3.Vehicle is easy decide if you want inside or outside storage, think of car covers and pest control.
4.Commercial storage the best suggestion I can make is go with the largest unit you can afford. You will expand, your inventory will always change. One month you need a 10X10 the next a 15X20. You really don't want to move sheds all the time, so go for a large one. Many commercial users start with one shed and within months have 3 large units.

Remember these are generalized statements each and everyone situation is different, these are general suggestions. If you know you don't need to access your items go for a smaller unit. If you need to get at your stuff go for the larger unit, it really saves a lot of head aches. Don't forget the Disc Lock

This is your first and best security tool. Any lock can be broken into, these are in my opinion the toughest locks out there for the money. I've seen lock in the $100's plus range that are really great. For your hard earned dollar, the disc lock is your best bang for the buck. Please Check Your Contract

At B&L RV & Mini Storage we rent by the month. When you move in we charge a prorated amount for the rest of the current month plus one full month of rent. Rent is due always on the first of the month. An example;( if you moved in on 4/20/07, you would pay the last 11 days of the month plus one full month, then your next payment would be due 6/1/07). We do not take a deposit, your rent is monthly after move in (we don't prorate after move in). Remember this when planning your move out times. If you move out on the 7th you lose 3 weeks of rent. Every storage facility has a different way of doing this, make sure you ask when you move in. Remember if we where to charge a daily or weekly rate it would be 10 times or more the monthly rate. At B&L RV & Mini Storage we do daily lock checks. It helps defend against a criminal cutting your lock off and coming back and going through your stuff. This is a very low tech, eye's on type security that every storage facility should do. I truly don't know why they all don't do it. It takes 20 seconds to put a colored sticker on the lock when someone moves in, and about 3-4 minutes every day to drive around and check the locks. Its simple and very effective. PROTECT IT!!!!

I hate to harp, but I just finished my daily lock check and the number of cheap pad locks really bother me. We only charged $6.00 for a quality disc lock when you moved in - now we give you one free upon move in.(just mention this blog) Even at $6.00 that the cheapest insurance I know of. Please remember to check with your homeowners or renter insurance to make sure you are covered, or take advantage of SAFESTOR it very reasonable priced. Do everything to protect your items;

1. Make sure you protect against dust, old sheets work best.
2. Make sure you use a good disc lock.

4. Use common sense when labeling your items - don't use gold bars as a description!
