Get ready for Winter

Time to take a quick review of what you have stored. Never store anything that can freeze, remember frozen liquids could crack their containers and leak. Never store food, it attracts rodents. Don't have electronics, artwork or other articles that could be affected by freezing. For more info check out or web site; blstorage.com

Anna Bell (Puppy) Update

This weekend Anna Bell made her trip to California. She will be living at a feed lot and have lots of cows to work. It was tough to see her go, but she'll have the life she was born and breed for. She was a very cowwie dog, she would herd anything, cats, geese, ducks and cows. She saw sheep this weekend but was sure what to do with them..Good Luck Anna Bell we will miss you.

Help Protect Your Stuff

1) Use a quality Disc lock
2) Dust is a everyday problem use old sheets to protect your stuff, use breathable coverings.
3) Carry insurance on your items
4) Do not store; Collectibles, heirlooms, jewelry, works of art, furs, mounts, electronics, food, fertilizers, pesticides, firearms, explosives, perishables, candles or wax items, ammunition, contraband, batteries, fuels, flammables, odorous materials, infectious materials, hazardous or toxic materials, any living objects ( people or pets), and or any property having special or sentimental value to you.
5) Protect against rodents by using a few dehydrating baits, they are packets you don't open, clean and easy to use.
6) Use a protected bottom level, pallets or plastic tubs, Plastic tubs are cheap and provide protection against insects, water. They stack well and are great for home storage.

Remember its important enough to store its important enough to protect....

Leave Pets at Home

Please leave your pets at home. We love dogs and cats, we have 1 dog and 4 cats. We ask you to leave yours at home because this is a business. Not everyone likes dogs, some people are afraid. The other main reason is this can be a dangerous place for animals. Many times there are multiple cars and customers on the property. We would hate to have one of your beloved pets get hurt. Please note we have a 15 mile per hour speed limit, please follow this, we do not want anyone or anything to get hurt. Thanks for your help and understanding. We respect you, please respect our wishes. Of course service animals are always welcome, remember they are trained to be around people and cars.

Security! Watchful Eye's

We don't have snow, right now its over 100 outside. The Blue skies look great on the security cameras. Yes we do have "Watchful Eye's", we also do daily lock checks, we live on site. Yet we provide 24/7 access to your storage shed. We feel it's important not to tell you when and if you can access your items. Many storage units don't think this is important, they have limited hours, and limited access. Make sure you check with your storage company to see what access hours they offer. Someday you might need that special item at 5:15 pm ( We'll be open for you!)

Puppy Update

Forgot to put in an update - Anna Bell is the leader of the pack. She's growing the quickest and is very dominate.
Storage comes in many flavors;
1.Temporary where your moving and need to store your items for a set period of time.
2.Permanent where you just need extra space.
3.Vehicle storage, you need a place for the RV or project car, boat etc...
4.Commercial storage where you might want the security of off site storage or you just need the extra space.

Each of these problems require different solutions. Check out our web site for more suggestions
;http://www.blstorage.com
1.Temporary storage, go for the best bang for the buck, get the smallest unit you can fit your items into. You know its only in there for 8-9 weeks so you won't have to be searching through it to get at needed items. Temporary storage plan on moving it in and than moving it out.
2.Permanent storage, think how many items do I need to access? Go with a larger unit, makes your searches much easier. When packing unit separate areas Christmas stuff, seasonal items, yard care items, what ever your storing keep similar items together, makes searching much easier.
3.Vehicle is easy decide if you want inside or outside storage, think of car covers and pest control.
4.Commercial storage the best suggestion I can make is go with the largest unit you can afford. You will expand, your inventory will always change. One month you need a 10X10 the next a 15X20. You really don't want to move sheds all the time, so go for a large one. Many commercial users start with one shed and within months have 3 large units.

Remember these are generalized statements each and everyone situation is different, these are general suggestions. If you know you don't need to access your items go for a smaller unit. If you need to get at your stuff go for the larger unit, it really saves a lot of head aches. Don't forget a good Disc lock and insurance (check with your homeowners or renters policy to see if off premise storage is covered, if not use a service like SAFESTOR) We do have a lot more info on our web site;http://www.blstorage.com

Don't forget the Disc Lock

This is your first and best security tool. Any lock can be broken into, these are in my opinion the toughest locks out there for the money. I've seen lock in the $100's plus range that are really great. For your hard earned dollar, the disc lock is your best bang for the buck. At B&L RV & Mini Storage we give you a Disc lock when you move in (just mention this BLOG). You won't find a better bang for your buck anywhere (unless I start paying you to take them!)

Please Check Your Contract

At B&L RV & Mini Storage we rent by the month. When you move in we charge a prorated amount for the rest of the current month plus one full month of rent. Rent is due always on the first of the month. An example;( if you moved in on 4/20/07, you would pay the last 11 days of the month plus one full month, then your next payment would be due 6/1/07). We do not take a deposit, your rent is monthly after move in (we don't prorate after move in). Remember this when planning your move out times. If you move out on the 7th you lose 3 weeks of rent. Every storage facility has a different way of doing this, make sure you ask when you move in. Remember if we where to charge a daily or weekly rate it would be 10 times or more the monthly rate. We are in business for long term storage. Always check your contract or ask before moving in. For more tips check out our web page; http://www.blstorage.com

Daily Lock Checks

At B&L RV & Mini Storage we do daily lock checks. It helps defend against a criminal cutting your lock off and coming back and going through your stuff. This is a very low tech, eye's on type security that every storage facility should do. I truly don't know why they all don't do it. It takes 20 seconds to put a colored sticker on the lock when someone moves in, and about 3-4 minutes every day to drive around and check the locks. Its simple and very effective. But no security is fool proof, please make sure if you value your items you keep them insured. Check out more tips at;
http://www.blstorage.com

PS The puppies are the fattest little things you've ever seen.

Sunday, April 22, 2007

Use help you know and trust!

Its easy to find the wrong people to help you move. Make sure you know and trust the people that help you move in. If you need to hire someone use a bonded mover or check with friends and family for suggestions on who to use....use a trusted person. Remember they will know where your stuff is and they will know your moving or your daily schedule. Do not hire the guy standing on the street corner. For more helpful hints check out our web page at; http://www.blstorage.com
Please check with your home owners or renters insurance to make sure your items are covered, if not use a company like SAFESTOR. You can find more info on our website. Remember security starts with you.

P.S. The puppies are fat and happy!

Friday, April 20, 2007

Most popular!

!) Size - 8X10 great general purpose storage size, get rid of a lot of clutter around the house and makes it easy to find. An 8X10 is large enough that you can horseshoe your items so you have space to easily search for items.

2) Disc lock- remember we give you one free upon move in just for mentioning this blog. By far the best bang for your security buck!

3) Plastic storage bins (available at Walmart or any Dollar store) They are inexpensive and are a great deterrent to dust, pests, and water.....Very cheap protection. At least your first layer (the stuff that contacts the floor) should be stored in these types of containers. Also you maximize your storage because these stack well and are the same size.

4) Auto pay - (You never have to worry about a late payment) By using your Visa or MasterCard and auto pay there is no stress - no calls, no late letters. Thats why at B&L RV & Mini Storage we do not charge extra for Auto Pay, it saves us as much work and stress as it does you.

5) Paying by the year, most long term and commercial units select this option. You save 10% off your bill when paying by the year.

6) Don't forget a few old sheets go a long way! DUST I can't stop it in my house, I can't stop it in you storage space. Dust is a fact of life, use old sheets to cover your stored items (don't use plastic, it sweats and can damage your items)

These are a few of the most popular facts of storage, I hope they help you in your quest for storing your items. You can call us at 1-520-586-237 or check us out on the web at;
B&L RV & Mini Storage

PS The puppies are healthy and very hungry, they are doing great.

Check out our new guard dog

Just born today! 2 females and 1 male, very mean looking! Ha Ha! Hope you enjoy!

PROTECT IT!!!!

I hate to harp, but I just finished my daily lock check and the number of cheap pad locks really bother me. We only charged $6.00 for a quality disc lock when you moved in - now we give you one free upon move in.(just mention this blog) Even at $6.00 that the cheapest insurance I know of. Please remember to check with your homeowners or renter insurance to make sure you are covered, or take advantage of SAFESTOR it very reasonable priced. Do everything to protect your items;
  1. Make sure you protect against dust, old sheets work best.
  2. Make sure you use a good disc lock.
  3. Watch what you store (see our web site for a list of what not to store); http:www.blstorage.com
  4. Use common sense when labeling your items - don't use gold bars as a description!
  5. Know your storage facility, ask questions about security, live in managers, daily lock checks, cameras.
  6. Remember its your stuff if you didn't want it you'd give it away or throw it away so PROTECT IT!

Price and old times

B&L RV & Mini Storage

This is our main web site.

I found some 3 year old material today. In the class I took back then, the professor had a facility in Hawaii, rent for a 10X10 back then was $375.00 per month. He talked about other countries where rent was charged weekly instead of monthly. (remember there is 4.3 weeks per month) At B&L RV & Mini Storage we try to keep it reasonable our 10x10 rents for $62.75 per month as of 4/5/07. I guess we need to move everything to Hawaii! I could probably handle the beach, I know I wouldn't get any work done...I do remember the " tropical itch" a rum and fruit juice drink that had 7 shots of rum...and no taste of alcohol. Just wish I was 18 again and in Hawaii!
Enough wishing! We can save you some money... upon move in, just mention this blog and receive a free disc lock. Remember if you pay by the year at B&L RV & Mini Storage you receive a 10% discount. Just a couple of ways to save $$$$.

  4. Use people you know and trust to help you move.
  5. Use your head if something doesn't look right tell the management or the police.
Never Store; Collectables, heirlooms, jewelry, works of art, furs, mounts, electronics, food, fertilizers, pesticides, firearms, explosives, perishables, candles or wax items, ammunition, contriband, batteries, fuels, flammables, oderous materials, infectious materials, hazardous or toxic materials, any living objects ( people or pets), and or any property having special or sentimental value to you.

Storage What Kind?

Look for the big orange doors! B&L RV & Mini Storage 1080 W.4th St, Benson, AZ 85602

http://blstorage.com
Thats part of our family, Lyndsay was taking the picture, Cassandra with Rosie our official guard dog, then Cheyanne and Megan.

This industry is confused on what to call itself. A few names come to mind; self storage, mini storage, auto storage, RV storage, warehouse, household storage, commercial storage, pods, container storage, portable storage, records storage, boat storage, toy storage, and it seems to go on and on.... This is one reason we belong to ; Arizona Self Storage Association One of their goals is to create common practices through out the industry. Check out their site it has some great info!
At B&L RV & Mini Storage we do all the above storage, except portable and pods. We say yes we do store, household, commercial, auto, RV, records, boat, toy, business, home, and almost any other name they come up with. Check out our web site at; http://www.blstorage.
A quick note we got the new units set, they are ready to rent! Thanks for for understanding last week! Give B&L RV & Mini Storage a call at 1-520-586-2379 if we can help with your storage needs! You can E-mail us at blstorage@qwestoffice.net although its quicker to call.

Pest Control

Error on the safe side! We recommend using a dehydrating bait, one of the ones you don't open. Be careful if you have animals or small children with you... I would recommend you not using it if you have kids and animals with you. We treat for bugs and rodents but you never know when someone will move items in that where stored in a garage or barn and they bring little friends with them. Never store food or seeds, or animal food, these items call pests. In all my years in the storage business I had one complaint a customer said "you have rats, huge rats!" I ask if he had any food in his unit, he told me no! Three days later he moved out and we discovered he used to have a 40 pound bag of sunflower seeds for his birds. I say he used to have because ground squirrels had left him a pile of hulls. They ate through the insulation near the roof to make a hole to get at the food. We ended up with repairs and a mess to clean up. Please do not store any food items! For other tips check out our web site; http://www.blstorage.com

Weekend Thoughts

http://az.local.yahoo.biz/blrvministorage/
http://blstorage.qwestoffice.net/

These top web sites are light weight versions that are more easily used with dial up, they do not have all the information of our main web site. Which includes pictures so it does take a little longer to download with dial up. Our main web site is;

http://www.blstorage.com

The top question that came to mind this weekend was judging size of the unit you need. Our listed size recommendations don't fit every ones needs. They are just rough estimates.
5X5 - small closet items
5X10 - small furniture/boxes
5X15 - small 1 bedroom apartment/commercial records storage
8X10 - 1 bedroom apartment
10X10 - 1 bedroom house
10X15 - 2 bedroom apartment
8X20 - 2-3 bedroom house
10X20 - small car 3-4 bedroom house
15X20 - 4 bedroom house/ commercial unit
8X40 - 5 bedroom house/ Large commercial unit

Remember everyone is special and we all have special needs! You may have a 1 bedroom apartment, yet you may have enough furniture to fill a 3 bedroom house. We try to help but you are the only one that truly knows how much stuff you own.
Other things to remember are do you need to get at a couple of items? If so pack them last. Or do you need to get at a lot of seasonal items, you may want get a larger shed.

Easy payment systems

At B&L RV & Mini Storage we offer auto pay with Visa and MasterCard. We also except cash, checks, money orders, debit card. Some larger storage businesses have pay at the gate with credit cards or a kiosk for self service. Check with your storage to see how, when, and what type of payments are excepted. This is one of the small things that can cause confusion, when, where, and how! If it is not explained to you ask. At B&L RV & Mini Storage payment is always due on the 1st of the month, no invoice is sent out. If payment is not received with in 6 or 7 days we try to reach you by phone. At 9 days we charge a $5.00 invoice fee and send out an invoice by US Post. We try to make our payment system as painless as possible. Please check out our main web site at; http://www.blstorage.com

Please remember to check with your home owners or rental insurance company to see if you are covered for off premise storage. If not most storage businesses now offer insurance. We like SAFESTOR they can be reached at; 1-877-528-5673 or online at; http://www.safestorinsurance.com

Daily lock checks

At B&L RV & Mini Storage we do daily lock checks. This is the best way to combat crooks, from cutting locks off, replacing them with their own locks and coming back to high grade your stored items. When selecting a storage ask if they do daily lock checks, ask if they place a sticker on your lock so they know it belongs on that unit. This is a very simple thief prevention technique. This is one of the things that every storage facility should offer. Sometimes the simple things can help keep your stored items safer. Please remember make sure you our insured. For more info please check out our web site at http://www.blstorage.com

Hints for packing

Check out our web site at; http://www.blstorage.com

When packing your storage unit remember a few simple things will save you hours of back breaking labor after the fact!
1. Label your boxes....don't use labels like artwork or gold coins (you shouldn't have these kind of items in a storage unit) on the labels. Use general terms; master bath, girls bedroom, ect...
2. Place the items you are not going to be needing in the back of your unit.
3. Think ahead, are you going to need your Christmas stuff? If you are, load it in last.
4. When selecting your unit, a larger unit will help if you are using a lot of your stored items on a regular basis. Makes things much easier to find, also you can create lanes to get to seasonal items.
5. If you are storing items that you aren't going to need fill every available space while packing your unit. Place boxes in spaces left by your larger pieces. Stack, stack, stack...
6. We hope these suggestions will help make your storage experience easier.
Please remember security starts with you; use a good disc lock, look for things that don't seem right and report them. Security is really a community problem. If everyone is watching out for everyone else we would be living in a much more secure world. Don't be afraid to be the one that tells the storage manager something didn't quite look right. If management is unavailable tell the police.

DailyTips and Tricks

When selecting your unit make sure you have easy access;
1.Can you pull your truck or trailer close to your unit?
2. Are you pulling a trailer or having it delivered, check how wide the roadways are. Remember a moving company will charge extra if the items have to be ferried to your unit.
3. Make sure the hours your facility allows you access to your unit, works for you. If they are closed on Sunday or you can't enter after 5pm or before 8am it might cramp your style.
4. Lastly is your facility easy to find and access, is it near the highway or hidden on a back street?

At B&L RV & Mini Storage we try to make it as easy as possible for you. We offer; wide roadways, so every unit can be driven too. Our hours are 24/7, and we are located about 600 feet from I-10. Please check out our web page: http://www.blstorage.com

Tips and Tricks

When choosing a storage unit, remember these few things can help keep your items safer.
1. Know your area. You want to pick a storage facility in a better area.
2. Check your facilities security set-up; do they have on-site managers/owners, do they do daily lock checks, do they have security cameras, are the units clean?
3. Don't be afraid to ask questions.
4. Make sure you have your own insurance. At B&L RV & Mini Storage we offer SAFESTOR Insurance. You can go online or call them to obtain insurance. Too save a little money first check with your home owners or renters policy to see if you have off premise insurance. Remember if it is important enough to keep its important enough to insure.
5. Use plastic tubs, they are great at keeping dust and insects out.
6. When covering furniture and large pieces use something that breaths, a old sheet, packing pads. Remember plastic will cause condensation.
7. Always use a good disc lock.
8. Use common sense don't store furs, mounts, electronics, heirlooms, computers, flammables, explosives, food, collectibles, art work, firearms, ammo, anything you can't replace. This is not a complete list, use common sense . For a more complete list check out our web site at;http:www.blstorage.com
